The Horse of Jenin
Filmed at Dunya Productions in May 2026
Cherry Street Village (720 25th Ave)
Synopsis:
Combining storytelling, standup comedy, and mask performance, The Horse of Jenin is constructed from fragments of Palestinian actor and comedian Alaa Shehada’s own memories—including the actual Horse of Jenin sculpture built from rubble after the 2003 invasion—and stands as an ode to the power of imagination and the resilience it brings. This exclusive in-person Seattle screening of Alaa's 80-minute performance at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025 will be followed by a talkback with local artists whose creative liberation work draws compelling parallels with Alaa’s groundbreaking performance: Kamari Bright, Diana Fakhoury, and Hala Saleh.
